BrewHaHa
Well, there was quite a brouhaha over at BMG regarding the future of Worcester. Thanks to Frank Skeffington for linking to MassChange and to Bob for promoting that post! I hope all you readers enjoy this space!

Did you notice that Jon Keller picked up last week's op-ed article the day after I recapped your stuff? http://cbs4boston.com/kellerblog/local_blogentry_107094438.html
All of the LG candidates' records are going to be run through the press. Tim's is the easiest because he is the only office holder and Worcester's 'revival' is sketchy if not altogether questionable owing to it's near bankruptcy status. What about the others? Sam's is quite mysterious, Deb's is somewhat thin after leaving the working world in 1988ish or so and Andrea's is pretty easy to track. Let's get on with it.
Look, I don't live in Worcester but maybe Frank P. Raffa, president of the firefighters union says it better: “We’ve been broke so many times, it’s a wonder we still have street lights on,”... (for the full article - http://www.fallenbrothers.com/ community/showthread.php?p=9091)
It is happening in many communities throughout the state. This is not my opinion it is called fact. And it is a real problem that needs a real solution.
comments from the firefighters are opinions or comments, not fact, as well. And, in FACT, he's the one pushing for a raise that his comments would indicate are not affordable. So let's stick to facts.
Fact: if we don't choose our political leaders based on real experience and accomplishments rather than empty rhetoric we will continue as a state to lose population, jobs, and revenue.
Thanks, but I am not attacking Worcester or Tim. If we are going to back an LG candidate we should have some real irrefutable 'facts' to look at so we can stand a chance against a very well-funded Republican machine. They will do their homework also. Tim's web site is full of rhetoric and his own press releases. I am open to persuasion, I just haven't seen any. I easily found the firefighters' quote by googling Tim and Worcester. Guess what? There really aren't any articles talking about the amazing revitalization or economic boom in that city. The only thing I have seen are anecdotal comments on other blogs but no real facts. We need to deal in reality and choose a winning ticket for our party. Just show me some facts (by your own definition) and make a case rather than bristling at any positive criticism (if you think I am attacking wait until this fall and the Republicans get going). Don't we all want to win in November? Let's all aim for that goal and make the right choices now.
I'm not sure we have to worry about Republicans, when you seem capable of making broadside attacks based on googling two names. Under your "logic" we shouldn't nominate Ted Kennedy either because he has a long track record that would expose us to "attacks". Let's worry less about the republicans and focus, as you say we should, on accomplishments, and let's not try to tear down candidates we may not like by fanning the rhetorical flames.
Exactly - I'll ask again. Show me some facts. I'm not being personal here. I don't know Tim from Adam or Bob or you but he is asking for my vote based on statements that I can't seem to verify through his web site or otherwise. As mayor I would like to think his past accomplishments would speak for themselves. What are they? Facts please.
If you cant find facts and accomplishments for any of the 4 candidates for Lt. Gov., I'm not sure anyone will be able to help you. They all have some, Murray's are well documented. If you choose to ignore his because of a bias toward another candidate, then that is a problem not of information, but of choice.
Actually I found about 15 pages of entries for Andrea Silbert of awards by the SBA, Boston Chamber and even Inc. magazine as well as a floor statement by John Kerry in the Congressional Record, to mention only a few. Quite impressive. I do agree that there is some info on Tim, but not nearly what I would have thought for a candidate for LG.
now you've shown yourself, and I'm dismayed to say that the Silbert people seem to employ this as a tactic. Make baseless charges against opponents, in your case, that Worcester is "bankrupt". It's sad really. Sorry that seems to be a favorite campaign activity of the Silbert people.
While I appreciate the discussion here, let me ask that you identify yourselves. I won't turn on registration or anything (yet), but I just ask that you ID yourselves.
Next: my post on Worcester's financial stability is not an opinion; it's an opinion of the op-ed writer, and that article appears to refer to facts. That's an attenuated chain to get to the truth, but it does raise legitimate questions. I would bet that we could ask similar questions about many other cities in MA. The questions are worth asking.
Finally, as I have said repeatedly, I have not made up my mind who I will be voting for in the LG race at the convention. I have heard Silbert a couple more times than the other candidates, but am not convinced that any one of them will bring the most to the ticket. We'll see what they do to woo me and other undecided delegates in the month plus leading up to the convention.
playing by your rules hoss. It would actually be helpful to have names attached, so we know who we are talking too, and if we have to add to comments, that we can do so, but it's sometimes too easy to hit anonymous.

worcester is "near bankruptcy", and you got that from the op-ed? keep the hyperbole to yourself.

nice rhetorical flourish. agreed. not sure what that has to do with your attack on Worcester.

you could have just told positive stories about Silbert first, without making baseless claims against others.
Revival "sketchy" "questionable"
"near bankrupt status",. Man, that's out there.
