Murray Hires Republicans?

In a post over on BMG this morning, FieldGuy (a clear Silbert fan) suggests that Murray's spokesman is somehow linked with Christy Mihos.

A quick Google search turns up some pretty damning evidence:

Scott Ferson, Tim Murray's spokesman, has been called a friend of Mihos in both the Herald and Globe.

Ferson was apparently hired by Mihos to win his job back when he was fired from the Turnpike Authority.

This is unacceptable. I know people want good help, but please. Is this all that Murray could come up with?

Silbert has hired one of the best Democratic media consultants in Tad Devine.

Deb Goldberg has as well.

As a delegate who was considering Murray as the LG candidate to support, I am quite disappointed that he would add someone who has so clearly worked for people opposed to the values we all espouse. Silbert and Goldberg have moved up a notch in my decision-making tree now.

It seems as if a little was left out like his work in elections for Democrats. Senator Kennedy, Congressman Lynch, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend in Maryland and the Democrat in the Ohio race. He has a business which he makes his living from. In that, he has represented some people you or I may not approve of but that is what press people do. If you need a press person it is usually not because of somthing nice you did.

Below is his bio in his own words, therefore you have to take them with a grain of salt also but, he was on Senator Kennedy's staff and it does not look like he has ever worked for a Republican in his quest for elective office. and that means a lot to me.

As President of The Liberty Square Group since September 1999 Mr. Ferson provides strategic public and government relations counsel to a broad range of clients. He brings twenty years of experience working with community groups, elected and appointed officials, and the media to reach solutions to problems both straightforward and complex through a strong understanding of how the public responds to information.
A former Press Secretary to Senator Edward M. Kennedy, in 2001 he served as Communications Director for Stephen F. Lynch's successful congressional campaign in Massachusetts' 9th district. He has also been the spokesman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on their Boston Temple Construction, and for Christy Mihos during his successful battle to retain his seat on the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority.

From 1995 to September 1999, Mr. Ferson provided counsel to a number of corporate clients as a Senior Vice President at McDermott/O'Neill and Associates. He served on a five-member Executive Board for the company of sixty employees and one hundred and fifty clients, with offices in Boston, Providence, Rhode Island, and Washington D.C.

Prior to joining McDermott/O'Neill, he served as Press Secretary and Massachusetts Policy Director to United States Senator Edward M. Kennedy. In this position, he directed Kennedy's Massachusetts issues staff and served as the Senator's media spokesman on a wide range of topics. He took a leave of absence from the Senate office to work on Senator Kennedy's successful 1994 re-election campaign.

Mr. Ferson also served as Assistant Town Administrator in Westford, Massachusetts, where he provided long-range municipal planning and management. From 1985 to 1987 he held the position of Economic and Community Development Director for Massachusetts Congressman Chester Atkins, helping to provide government and economic development assistance to business and community leaders.

A veteran of numerous campaigns, from 1987 to 1988 and again in 2004 Mr. Ferson worked on the presidential campaigns of Congressman Richard Gephardt, and in 1996 for Senator John Kerry's re-election campaign. As a Democratic strategist he has appeared on Channel 2's Greater Boston, News Night on New England Cable News, CN8, and Fox 25.

He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.

Because Scott Ferson is friends with Christy Mihos that makes him a Republican? We should ignore the fact that he has previously worked for Sen. Kennedy and Congressman Lynch among many other Democrats.

I take it that you must not have voted for Kerry for President. After all he married a Republican.

hoss, this is garbage and you know it. I actually used to like reading your posts over on BMG

I confess I am a friend of Christy Mihos, and he is a former client of my firm. I represented him when he was fired by Jane Swift (Republican) from the Turnpike Board. I didn't consider it a partisan issue at the time, and I didn't know Christy, but I think time has proven that he was right, and the Supreme Court agreed. I do not represent him now, but just because he has since decided to run as an Independent for governor does not, in my mind, disqualify me for continuing to talk to him, or comment about his character or candidacy. I am a former staffer for Senator Kennedy and for Chet Atkins, and have worked on both presidential campaigns for Dick Gephardt, and for Stephen Lynch, John Connolly and other democratic races, although I will also confess to voting and working for John Anderson for President, and I am not sorry. I will confirm that Tad Devine is indeed a top notch press guy and neither he nor I would have planted the T and G article.

Really. Get over yourself.

Do you honestly think after the Democratic party has been failing in the area of "communication" that it would be smart to hire a known Democratic media consultant? Think to our party messaging nationally and even in the state of Mass. It sucks!

Also, just because a person is friends with someone doesn't mean they share those beliefs. I have plenty of republican/conservative friends and I am as liberal as they come.

Common sense man! Your attacks are just not credible, and are obviously attempts by the Silbert campaign to make some noise.
